It was one of the most curious tumors for those who want to embrace the foldable smartphone segment, but don’t want to spend a lot of money. Now, however, the chances of seeing Samsung democratize access to this type of equipment are falling apart.
Speaking to the publication Korea JoongAng Daily, the market-leading technology company rules out any intention of launching a foldable smartphone with a mid-range price. This indicates that the company will remain committed to its line of foldables premium.
Samsung says it has no plans to launch a foldable with a mid-range price
Rumors about the launch of a Samsung foldable smartphone with a more affordable price date back to 2022. At that time, there was speculation that the South Korean company could put this product on the market in 2024.
As that date approached and these predictions were reiterated, Samsung felt the need to go public and clarify its plans. Through a spokesperson, the company denies these rumors and claims that they are unfounded.
“We do not plan to manufacture foldable smartphones with prices in the range [média]and the latest rumors are unfounded”. This is the sentence that puts an end to a wave of rumors that excited fans of the company’s products, especially its foldables.
It is important to note that these statements rule out the launch of a foldable device for the mid-range segment. However, it does not rule out the possibility of seeing a substantial price cut compared to those currently charged.
Let’s imagine that Samsung launched a foldable with a price of around €800. This is not a value that can be considered mid-range, but it is also not a high and prohibitive price for most, as we see in its current offer.
This is just a hypothesis, resulting from a more optimistic reading of the company’s official statements. For now, we are just sure that Samsung does not plan to put foldable devices on the market at prices that we can consider affordable,
