Apple has looked at the zoom capabilities of its smartphones as a feature only intended for Pro models. But with the iPhone 15 Pro Max it went further and added a 120 mm lens to this model that gives it zoom without loss of quality up to 5 times. However, the iPhone 15 Pro remains limited to 3x zoom without loss of quality.
iPhone 16 Pro should have a 120mm lens
According to the analyst Ming-Chi KuoApple wants to match both Pro models in 2024. According to this source, the iPhone 16 Pro will also have a 120 mm periscopic lens similar to the iPhone 16 Pro Max.
In this way, Apple will make both devices equally capable at a photographic level, as it did in previous versions. In the analyst’s forecasts, shipments of smartphones with this camera are expected to grow 160% annually.
Ming-Chi Kuo says that Huawei will be one of the biggest customers for this type of lens in 2024. Which means that demand for periscopic lenses is expected to grow next year, with the P70 smartphones featuring this type of lens.
As for Apple, the decision not to put a periscopic lens on the iPhone 15 Pro forced some users to buy the larger model, which is consequently more expensive. The brand has already proven in the past that it can put the same photographic capabilities in both models and is expected to repeat this in 2024.
This means, for those who are on the fence between the iPhone 15 and the iPhone 15 Pro Max, it may make sense to wait for the next generation.
